What's Growing Where you are?

At To Focus, we believe where and how you work - the soil you’re planted in - shapes everything. Just like in winemaking, the environment (or terroir) affects the quality of what you produce. Soil, sunlight, water, attention - it all matters.

So take a moment. What kind of soil are you in?

What are you soaking up every day in your role? Stress? Exhaustion? Disconnection? Is it helping you grow - or slowly wearing you down?

The leaders we need now don’t just push through - they grow with purpose. They pay attention to what’s happening under the surface.

When we work with people in transition, we start with honest, grounding questions:

  • What kind of environment brings out your best?

  • What daily habits give you energy rather than drain it?

  • What would it look like to really care for your wellbeing at work?

We use the metaphor of soil because it’s real. It’s messy. And like you, it’s alive.

Change doesn’t always start with a big announcement. It often begins quietly, like roots shifting underground. You might not have the full picture yet—but part of you already knows: something needs to change.

And sometimes, before we can grow something new, we need to break down what’s no longer serving us.

That’s where composting comes in.

It’s a messy, magical process where waste becomes nourishment. What looks like failure or burnout can actually become the richest part of your growth—if you give it space to transform. Coaching is a bit like that. It doesn’t pretend things aren’t messy. It helps turn the mess into something meaningful.

Most change models are neat and tidy. But real change isn’t. It’s more like a forest: messy, connected, full of life.

Here’s what we’ve learned from coaching leaders who embrace regeneration:

  • Diversity matters: Complex problems need many perspectives - not just one kind of thinking.

  • Growth takes time: Like plants, we grow by leaning into the light - not by being forced.

  • Everything’s connected: Change doesn’t happen in a vacuum - it happens in relationships, systems, habits.

  • Roots come first: The visible shift often starts deep within, long before others notice.

 So ask yourself again:

What are you producing in your current environment? And is it worth it?

If you’re unsure - but you know you can’t stay like this - it might be time to pause, dig deeper, and start making space for something new to grow.
