Are we growing or just harvesting?
We spend so much time focusing on targets, performance and results that we forget to ask a more important question:
Are we creating the conditions for people to thrive?
You can’t grow much in barren soil. Yet many organisations continue to demand more output, greater speed and bigger results without considering the health of the environment in which people work.
We harvest and harvest, then wonder why nothing grows back.
🌱 What if leadership started with the soil, not the harvest?
Rather than reaching for another model or framework, what if we paused to ask:
What is depleting our people?
What helps them feel supported and able to grow?
Are we taking more from the system than we’re putting back?
As AI takes on more of our work, perhaps it’s time to rethink what we value in people and the conditions they need to flourish.
Success isn't just about what we ask people to deliver. It's about the environment we create around them.
One question to reflect on:
What are we doing to the conditions that keep people growing?
