Burnout - What if We Gave People Less to Remember

A field of flowers growing. Feel the soil. Imagine what you want to grow. Deeper roots. Nourishment and what needs to lie fallow.

Burnout - What if we gave people less to remember?

I sit in lecture theatres and watch hundreds of slides pass in front of people.

And I wonder: how much of this will they actually remember?

We tend to assume that more content means more learning.

But perhaps the opposite is sometimes true.

What if, instead of filling people’s heads with content, we gave them a frame they could populate for themselves?

This is at the heart of our approach.

We use simple, powerful metaphors from the natural world - and then go deeply into them.

Take a field.

You don’t just talk about a field. You can stand in one. Feel the soil. Imagine what you want to grow. Where you want deeper roots. What needs nourishing. What needs protecting. What needs to lie fallow.

And because you populate the metaphor with your own experience, you can visualise it.

You can feel it.

You can return to it.

You remember it.

The metaphor becomes somewhere to put your thinking.

And that, we believe, is a much more powerful form of learning than being given another 60 slides to absorb.

Less content. More experience. More space to make meaning.

So, if you’re interested in leadership development, coaching or organisational development, and you’re looking for something that doesn’t involve another room full of slides - but does offer a clear, memorable framing that people can make their own - please get in contact.

We’d love to talk.

Warm regards,

Mark
